It can be used as a general purpose primer for absorbent surfaces to promote adhesion and to prevent unacceptably rapid drying of adhesives and smoothing underlayments. It is suitable for use over normal underfloor heating installations.
STOPGAP P131 is coloured green to provide the user with visual control of coverage uniformity.
STOPGAP P131 should be used on non-absorbent surfaces of STOPGAP Waterproof Surface Membranes, terrazzo, power floated concrete, quarry and ceramic tiles, sound asphalt, steel, well bonded epoxy and polyurethane coatings and minimal existing adhesive residue. It should also be used on absorbent surfaces such as concrete, sand/cement screeds, plywood, hardboard and chipboard.
Floor surfaces must be suitably prepared: sound, smooth, dry (<75%RH) and free from contaminants that may prevent adhesion. Concrete and sand/cement screeds must be fully cured and any laitance or surface treatments must be removed prior to the application of the appropriate STOPGAP underlayment. The temperature of the surface must be above 10°C when the primer is applied to the subfloor and underfloor heating must be off for at least 48 hours before, during and after application. Ensure the subfloor is dry and incorporates an effective damp proof membrane.
MIXING AND APPLICATION
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE
For absorbent surfaces add 1 part of STOPGAP P131 to 4 parts of clean cold water and stir until thoroughly dispersed. For non-absorbent surfaces, apply the primer neat. Apply STOPGAP P131 evenly to the whole surface to be treated and allow it to dry completely.
This will vary depending on the temperature, humidity and absorbency of the subfloor. On absorbent subfloors, at 20°C, allow 20 to 30 minutes before proceeding with the application of STOPGAP smoothing underlayments or STYCCOBOND adhesives. On non-absorbent subfloors, at 20°C, this is typically extended to 60 minutes. These times will be extended at lower temperatures.
Avoid excessive trafficking of the subfloor once the primer has dried.
TOOLS Paint roller or medium stiff broom. Wash tools with warm water immediately after use.
STORAGE Store between 5°C and 30°C. Protect from frost.
